Gen AI Mini-Unit

This is my Gen AI mini-unit meant to help students better understand Gen AI through discussing the following:

• How it works and knows what to write (or more accurately writes without knowing what it is writing)
• Potential downsides of Gen AI usage
• Potential uses for Gen AI in and out of school
• The messages AI companies are giving us about it
• How AI affects us and our brains
• What role (if any) Gen AI should play in our classes.

Included in this are four lesson plans, two worksheets, one slideshow, and one example infographic. There are also over a dozen links to articles, ads, and places to learn more about Gen AI. Its approach is one that is based in dialogue and exploration, with the goal being that when students carefully think about all the factors around Gen AI, they will come to their own informed conclusions-ones that ideally will steer them away from misusing Gen AI in our classes and beyond.
